This is a really great older Dell laptop, fully compatible with Windows 98 SE PLUS a Dual boot of Windows XP both with official drivers *NOTE: Palmrest corners will always be black by default! Rarely other colors may be available. Both the Silver and Black palmrest options are pictured. MAXIMUM SCREEN RESOLUTION 1400 X 1050! Games looks great on it! (Pictures don’t do it justice, looks way better in person.) One of the final very most powerful laptops possible that is capable of both DOS gaming and XP! Both OSes with every patch available plus more tweaks and fixes for both OSes well beyond the offical support that I have accumulated for the most perfect OS installs possible with the highest compatability. PLAYS A HUGE NUMBER OF GREAT OLD DOS GAMES WITH FULL SOUND RIGHT IN WINDOWS 98! PLUS MANY WINDOWS XP GAMES! ALSO WITH FULL CUSTOM DOS MENU AND DOS MODE! Doom, Hexxen, Heretic, Wolfenstein 3D and Duke Nukem 3D (Included) all tested and working great. Doom, Hexxen, Heretic and Duke Nukem with full sound and music! And Wolf with SFX in Windows, but no music. *Massive library of over 3500 DOS games you can feel free to ask about.* The vast majority of old laptops with 98 or older OS’s on them will run DOS games, but NOT with sound! Almost none of them do even many you see with “DOS Gaming” in the titles… Or they may play a few sound effects but not full sound and full music. But this one does. And it’s glorious. So you can play many DOS games right in Windows with full sound and music PLUS for the more picky games that require real DOS mode you have the ability to run games in real DOS mode also, and a menu with various memory modes to choose from plus mouse and CD drive support. *Please be aware the actual DOS mode is tricky and you may have to configure games differently from Windows! For example Doom works great with full sound and music in both Windows and DOS but requires different settings! (Cheat sheet included for Doom and a few other games with specific settings for this system.) Conveniently has a PS2 port also so you can hook up an external mouse! (I have new mousepads too and can send both along for a little extra if needed, a mouse & mousepad.) Great condition overall, cleaned and tested thoroughly to be full working order (most batteries are long dead and will be disabled permanently). (Please note it will not be factory brand new clean although I do my best to meticulously clean each one, this is an old computer! Also there may be typical wear and tear on the outer case, possibly a sticker or two although I usually try to remove them.) Windows 98SE installed. Universal USB drivers also installed and work great for many things. (Can use most flash drives & some other devices, very nice to have. Have used various flash drives and on every one the wizard came up and default driver loaded it up.) As with all of my 98 systems it also includes nearly every patch & update possible for 98, Direct X 9.0c and various other nice to have upgrades. Windows XP “Final” edition installed. Has in essence every possible patch and fix for XP preloaded into the installation. Comes out clean and ready for anything. Lots of great tweaks and some quality of life software already preloaded as well such as VLC player, PDF reader, Zip folder support, Crisp fonts, etc. —————————————– SPECS AND OPTIONS! *The specs on these may vary slightly but will always be at least my stated minimum default config below. SPECS: Processor: Intel Pentium III 1000 Mhz or higher – (Rare 1.13 to 1.3Ghz exist also which I may have.) Memory: 256MB (plenty for any 98 CD based game & should cover all XP games playable on this system also.) Hard Drive: 20GB – 40GB Hard Drive (or larger) (Good brands such as Hitachi, IBM, Western Digital.) Optical Drive: CD or CD/DVD drives – luck of the draw but most all of these have DVD roms. Video card: Nvidia Geforce 2 Go 16MB OR ATI 7500 16MB (Play most any DOS / 98 games & many XP games as well!) Sound Card: “Secret Sauce” with good sound & music support for DOS in Windows & some in DOS mode! Screen: 15″ LCD with 1400×1050 Resolution! Ethernet: 10/100 Ports: PCMCIA Slot x2, 2x USB, Parallel, Serial, VGA, Headphone, Mic, Line out, S-video Out Battery: Most of these batteries are disabled permanently to not stress the charging circuit. Modular Bay: You will receive either the floppy or an empty hard drive expansion module by default depending on what I have. OPTIONS: Hardware Options Available at request for additional cost: Memory Option: 512MB memory – maximum possible for stable function of Windows 98 Hard Drive: Larger hard drives available upon request Screen Option: 1600 resolution! (+$$$ option, have to pull these from other rare working systems!)Video Card Option 2: Nvidia Geforece2 Go 32MB or ATI 7500 32MB Video Card Option 3: Geforce 4 Go 440 64MB (+$$$$ possible but difficult to execute option + requires special screen swap.) Video Card Option 4: ATI Radeon 9000 64MB (+$$$$ possible but difficult to execute option + requires special screen swap.) Working Battery: A battery that still charges, these will not work like new however. Options for expansion modular bays: (The Module bay is the front left bay of the laptop with lots of versatile options!)-Floppy drive -Extra/2nd CD or CD/DVD Module drive (These all come with one DVD drive already installed (left side slim DVD), this option allows a 2nd drive in the front left Modular Bay.) -Or another battery! —————————————- -Hard drive Expansion Module – Empty-Hard drive Expansion Module + Installed hard drive – cost varies based on size from 10GB to 200GB *Unfortunately I cannot find these Hard Drive expansion bays ANYWHERE anymore so they are not available at the moment—————————————-If you’d like a particular option for the expansion bay please ask! Since I can’t find the spare hard drive modules floppy is now the default and included in the base price. *NOTE ON SPECS AND PALMREST COLORS: The specs on these will vary sometimes a little as will the little palmrest inserts color. (They are removable and customizable!) Most of the palmrest colored corners will be black, occasionally I may have other colors such as the silver, blue, green & I think red was an option also although I’ve about never seen some of those colors. If you want a specific color other than black please ask although its rare that any other colors are available as I almost never see/get them. ————————————— SUMMARY: All in all, this is a really nice system, running good with no problems. This system is primarily intended for running programs that require Windows 98 or XP for business, gaming & other multimedia. One of the most powerful laptops ever made that can play DOS games with full sound, plus full support for Windows XP and enough horsepower for many great XP games. Can play a very wide range of games from the DOS era conveniently right in Windows 98 all the way to the XP era and even includes some great DOS titles to get you started! (More games available as well if desired, sold separately.) Extremely versatile & robust hardware design – one of the only laptops you can add a 2nd CD/DVD, Hard drive, or a Floppy, plus the video card is modular and can be replaced/upgraded, the heatsink/fans are super easy to get to to maintain and dust, and these motherboards seem to last a lifetime! ——————————————————————————————————————————————— DOS GAMING VS XP GAMING VS BOTH *This system has massively wide compatibility to play a HUGE range of games, and this laptop is at the very top of maximum power for a DOS / 98 / XP gaming dual boot. However if your focus is purely DOS games, my other TRUE DOS Dell laptop may be a better choice for you as it has better support for more DOS games specifically with full sound and music, OR, one of my TRUE DOS desktops (Yamaha or Soundblaster 16 also on real hardware like this laptop) is the pinnacle for DOS compatibility and sound, if you have the space.
